Kate Beaton's Hark! A Vagrant comic about Sherlock Holmes has been animated! This is one of my favourites of her comics and it's kind of neat how they took a panel comic and animated it:

So, serious business first! I would like some assistance with organizing theme days and discussion posts, so if you would like to help out (making posts when I'm not online, etc) please either send me a PM or leave a comment. I've been busy and I totally completely suck at this. D:

A wild poll appears! It wants you to input your opinion.

I'd like to see more of...

story/book discussions
old TV series discussions
Holmes '09 discussions
News/gossip about Holmes '09 actors
Other (elaborate in comments)

Non-serious business:
Post your favorite Holmes-related or RDJ/Jude/every other actor pics, macros, and gifs!

RDJ on a swing invites you in.Collapse )

So, obviously there is not that much activity in this comm... and I don't know if I should continue with the weekly posts since there's not much interest. I know people might be busy with school/work (I know I am) so should I just hand it off to someone else who can generate more activity? Tell me your thoughts, bbs. <3

I've been pretty busy lately and haven't had the opportunity to read more SH stories or start watching the old series, so today is going to be a random post.

Have you encountered any Holmes references in real life lately? I just recently posted a job wanted ad on craigslist and snuck in "my mind rebels at stagnation". I felt pretty proud.

How about you guys? Ever quote RDJ while talking to friends, or try to deduce where your boy/girlfriend has been based on the things on their shoes or inkstains on their ears?

RDJ thanks you for your time.

According to the LA Times blog, Sherlock Holmes 2 could be shot in 3D!!

The rest of the news is here: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/movies/2010/04/sherlock-holmes-3d-robert-downey.html

OMG, I really hope this happens. Nothing would be better than to have RDJ pop out at me in 3D :)!! And then again, I'm quite surprised at myself for being excited at the prospect tentatively 3D movie, as I had a bad experience with the 3D show Honey, I Shrunk the Audience at Walt Disney World when I was 6. (I was freaked out by the 3D elements, such as cats turning into lions and mice that crawled all over ur legs--even though they weren't real.)

I'm sensing there will be some opposition.

(this image is begging to be manip'd by chemikalien)

This week I will try out a radio play with you guys~ We will be listening to a dramatization of The Gloria Scott, which is Sherlock Holmes' very first case (chronologically speaking, not in the order that ACD wrote the stories).

Listen here: http://www.sherlock-holmes.org.uk/mp3/09.The_Gloria_Scott.mp3

There's no need to download, by the way, there's an audio player right on the page. (: Keep in mind there have been TONS of radio plays over the years, but the one you are listening to is rather recent (2009) and done by the Old Court Radio Theatre Company.

Give it a listen and tell us your thoughts!

I thought I'd share a passage from a book I picked up the other day entitled "Sherlock Holmes: The man and his world.

Relevantly but too long to type out - the couple of paragraphs before go on about Irene's photograph and sovereign (those of you who have read A Scandal in Bohemia will know what's going on there), and then about how much Holmes doesn't like women. (For those of you playing at home, that would be "a lot").

Not especially worksafeCollapse )

Hurm. There doesn't seem to be any activity going on here except for the few comments in the reading posts so I'm thinking of changing it to just a general discussion post. Does anyone (anyone!!) have suggestions on how to generate more activity? It's so dead in here. ;~; Well, anyway, to get the ball rolling:

is, of course, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. He was:

- A doctor on the SS Mayumba and got his doctorate on the subject of nerve degeneration as a result of syphilis (demyelination for you psychology/brain science buffs)
- An avid player of football (soccer), cricket, and golf
- An ophthalmologist for a short time, but according to him, never had a single patient
- Never elected for Parliament, but ran twice
- A spiritualist and occultist, which he became after sinking into depression from losing many family members including his wife and son
- Friends with Harry Houdini, but the two had a public fallout after a disagreement on said spiritualism

(thanks, wikipedia)

Discuss this man's awesomeness.
